Austin developer to build Bryan apartments

Madhouse Development Services Inc., an Austin developer, has broken ground on a $22 million apartment complex in Bryan, east of Austin.

Though the majority of the 170 units at the Highland Villas complex are designed for independent seniors, 48 units are available to other renters. This blended concept puts seniors and families together, to serve multiple generations as the baby boomer generation ages, the company said in a statement.

In addition to bank financing for the project, Madhouse Development said it received Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs' tax credits and HOME Investment Partnership funds.

The gated complex, expected to open to residents in August 2014, includes one, two and three bedroom units. The complex will include a clubhouse facility with a fitness studio, business center, laundry, kitchen and media room as well as a swimming pool and children's playground.

Highland Villas is part of a master-planned community with retail and restaurants.
