LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A grand opening was held today for the Avanti Legacy Rosewood Apartments, a community designed for senior residents.
City officials said the project is funded through tax credits aimed at expanding affordable housing options.
Located on International, the community is now welcoming new residents ages 55 and older. The new complex hopes to provide older adults with comfort, stability and peace of mind.
“The program was designed by the Internal Revenue Service to be able to allow us to have lower rents to try to help families who are trying to retire,” Henry Flores said. “There’s a lot of families who are trying to retire who can’t because they can’t afford to. And our rents are hundreds and hundreds of dollars cheaper than the average rent.”
The city of Laredo’s Public Facility Corporation was also involved in the project. Officials said apartment units are still available.
